Welcome to our next Community Tech Tip, where we’ll take a closer look at changes to your profile settings and how useful they can be to you and your presence on the community.

Your Privacy Settings determine how much of your personal information is visible to fellow community members. The more information you share the easier it is for people to network and connect with you so try to find the right balance that works for you. You also have the option to opt out of appearing in the user directory if you wish to do so.

You can learn more about your privacy settings here

Sharing your Specialisms, specific skills or focus areas, can help you find, interact, share ideas, and work with others with a similar skill set to your own as well as making it easier for them to find you.

Setting your specific Region will also automatically add you to the corresponding discussion group for that area.

As an example, if you are based in the UK & Ireland, this will automatically add you to the RICS UK & Ireland group. This is a great way to help ensure the content you see on myRICS community is relevant to you. You can also manually join groups for other regions if they’re of interest.

The Networks function of your profile allows you to explore and connect with members who share similar data. By simply clicking on one of the options you can search for fellow community members who share that characteristic, dependent on their personal privacy settings.

The option for including your own Personal Pronouns, if you wish to do so, has been moved to the Username edit function. This is now native functionality which means you can also choose to add your pronouns to your community signature for clearer communication. This does mean that if you previously added pronouns to your profile you may need to add them again, apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Please note, that whilst this popup window will also offer the option to edit your username, any changes will not be retained. Your username is linked to the RICS database so will revert to it's original value when the server updates.

If you have any questions, please do let us know in the comments section below, our next Community Tech Tip will cover joining groups within the community.
